Geothermal Project - Drillhead

Check out these swiss machining images:

Geothermal Project – Drillhead

With such a drillhead the amazing depth of 4450 m was reached. In the hope to find hot water of 150-200 degrees Celsius at a depth of 4000-4500 m. But instead of water, only gas was found, that almost has blown up the plant. St. Gallen, Switzerland, July 21, 2013.

Geothermal Project – Gas Alert

A gas leak resulted in a dangerous increase of the pressure in the wellbore. As a countermeasure, 650 cubic meters of water and heavy drilling fluid was pumped into the hole. This caused an earthquake of Saturday morning, with the strength of 3.6 magnitude. According to the Seismological Service, the earthquake was noticeable in a radius of 75 km. But the pressure was successfully reduced. St. Gallen, Switzerland, July 21, 2013.

Machine shop project H 12-1970 K2

Check out these machine shop images:

Machine shop project H 12-1970 K2

Image by THE Holy Hand Grenade!

My first Machine China Shop project, finished in time for Christmas, seen on a ledge in the back yard of the family house. Taken by a borrowed Ricoh 500 with a Ricohmat 4.5cm ƒ2.8 lens on Kodak Kodachrome-II. I didn’t own a 35mm camera at the time! Mounted slide scanned into computer by an HP G4010.

Vignetting by the slide mount. The project is just slightly too close (about 6 inches…) to the camera, which is on the minimum focus that this camera allows.

I still have this piece, BTW, 40 years later! (it’s used as a paperweight…)
